This is not the first time that I?ve had something to share that reminds me that I owe a great ?Thank you? to my Aunt Irma.?? My famous pack-rat aunt was often ridiculed by others in the family for her ways but she has left me with a wealth of interesting items including her button collection.? Some items have been valuable little treasures and others more whimsical.?? I regret that I cannot find the paperwork and original box that this came in that she, of course, kept it in.? ?Her items were always stored in original packaging with little hand written notes regarding their origin and the date it was acquired.
This light was made by the Aerolux Light Corporation who made these fanciful bulbs for forty or so years starting in the 1930s.?? This one probably dates from the 1940s.? The bulbs actually contain a gas and the design elements were covered with phosphors.? ?I worry that I will wear it out and only turn it on occasionally.
Isn?t it pretty?
So, ?Thank you? Aunt Irma.? Thank you for all the Sunday afternoons that we spent together in my childhood when you dug out your treasures to show me.? They are just as magical now as they were then.? Thank you for leaving me so many wonderful things and thank you for the memories.
