Leveson to issue report on UK press abuses

LONDON (AP) ? After a yearlong inquiry full of sensational testimony, Britain's Lord Justice Brian Leveson is releasing his report Thursday into the culture and practices of the British press and his recommendations for future regulation to prevent phone hacking, data theft, bribery and other abuses.

The long-simmering scandal has already led to scores of arrests and some criminal charges. Dozens of cases have been settled out of court after victims of press intrusion sued. Here are some of the cases the Leveson inquiry has investigated:

MILLY DOWLER

The 13-year-old girl was abducted and murdered in 2002. In July 2011, it was reported that employees of Rupert Murdoch's News of the World tabloid had hacked into her telephone while police were still searching for her, giving her parents false hope that she was alive. Her mother, Sally Dowler, told the inquiry that when she could again leave a message on her missing daughter's phone, she shouted: "She's picked up the voice mails! ... She's alive!" Outrage over this case prompted Prime Minister David Cameron to commission the Leveson inquiry.

KATE and GERRY McCANN

Their young daughter Madeleine had vanished during a vacation in Portugal. The parents said newspapers were sympathetic at first but coverage later turned hostile. One story said the couple had sold their daughter into slavery, another that they had killed her and hid her body in a freezer. The couple successfully sued several British newspapers over suggestions that they had caused their daughter's death and then covered it up. Kate McCann described her dismay when extracts from her private diary ? in which she wrote to her missing daughter ? appeared in the News of the World in 2008. "I felt totally violated," she said. "There was absolutely no respect shown to me as a grieving mother or as a human being, or to my daughter."

HUGH GRANT

The popular actor testified that since "Four Weddings and a Funeral" made him a movie star, details of his hospital visits had been leaked, his garbage was rifled through, his ex-girlfriend and his infant daughter harassed. He said an article earlier this year in The Sun and the Daily Express about his visit to a hospital emergency room was a gross intrusion of privacy. "I think no one would expect their medical records to be made public or to be appropriated by newspapers for commercial profit. That is fundamental to our British sense of decency," he said.

J.K. ROWLING

The best-selling author of the Harry Potter series said she was completely unprepared for the tsunami of media attention when the first of her books became a sensational success. "It feels threatening to have people watching you," she said. Rowling said she had tried to keep her three children out of the media glare and was outraged when her eldest daughter came home from primary school with a letter from a journalist in her backpack. "I felt such a sense of invasion," she said.

CHARLOTTE CHURCH

A singer who became a star as a teenager, Church said she had been asked to perform at Rupert Murdoch's wedding to Wendi Deng and was offered either a $100,000 fee or a promise of favorable treatment from his newspapers. She took the latter but was hounded anyway. "In fact, Mr. Murdoch's newspapers have since been some of the worst offenders," she said. Between the ages of 16 and 20, Church said photographers were frequently stationed around the clock outside her home. Church said she was repeatedly chased in her car and suffered "the indignity of paparazzi trying to take photographs up my skirt and down my top."

CHARLOTTE HARRIS

A lawyer who represented several people who claimed to be hacking victims, Harris testified that she was a victim of "highly intrusive" surveillance by newspapers. The purpose, she said, "was to obtain information which could be made public in the hope of putting pressure on me, presumably to deter me and my clients from pursuing claims against the company."

The Japanese Fast-Start Finance Contribution | World Resources ...

Executive Summary

Developed country governments have repeatedly committed to provide new and additional finance to help developing countries transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient growth. This assessment considers Japan?s efforts to provide ?fast start finance? (FSF) between January 2010 and February 2012 in the context of the pledge by developed countries to mobilize USD 30 billion from 2010 to 2012 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is part of a series scrutinizing how developed countries are defining, delivering, and reporting FSF.

Given the size of its economy, Japan has a major role to play in delivering FSF.

Japan?s USD 15 billion FSF commitment is one of the largest amongst developed countries, but it is important to consider the contents of this commitment. Japan has played a significant role in global efforts to finance climate change activities in developing countries, and its FSF commitments accounts for almost half of the FSF that developed countries have pledged for 2010-2012. However, it is essential to better understand the broad range of instruments and activities that the government includes in its FSF, as different governments consider different types of finance to constitute FSF, so self-reported figures are not directly comparable between countries.

Other official flows (OOF) such as export and investment insurance, non-concessional loans, and guarantees make up around 40% of Japan?s total FSF contribution so far, and there is some ambiguity around the role of leveraged private finance. OOF amounts to as much as USD 5.1 billion of the USD 13.2 billion mobilized by 29 February 2012 sincethe announcement of the Hatoyama Initiative in September 2009. This includes USD 3.1 billion of leveraged private finance. While the role of leveraged private finance in the Japanese pledge is ambiguous, as discussed in the section on Methodology, we have included it in the analysis presented in this paper.

Japanese FSF is heavily weighted toward mitigation. About 70 percent of Japanese FSF addresses mitigation objectives. Most mitigation finance, in turn, is financed through loans (both ODA and non-ODA), which constitute about 75 percent of the contribution for infrastructure development projects, such as urban transport projects. There is a more even balance between adaptation and mitigation objectives within the grant portion of the FSF contribution (adaptation: 30 percent, mitigation and REDD+: 27 percent, multiple objectives: 43 percent). A significant share of Japanese FSF addresses one or more non-climate objectives in addition to mitigation or adaptation urban transport projects. Asia receives the most FSF among all regions, irrespective of financial instrument type. It is worth noting that the Japanese FSF includes a number of ?clean? fossil fuel power plant construction projects, such as a natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plant project in Central Asia. There is a need for greater clarity amongst members of the international community about how support for lower carbon fossil fuel facilities should be treated in the context of climate finance.

On balance, it is not clear that the entirety of the Japanese FSF is ?new and additional.? While the FSF contribution reflects some new effort to address climate change, it is unclear that the contribution as a whole can be considered ?new and additional.? Since the start of the FSF period, Japan has substantially increased international finance that explicitly targets climate change. Some Japanese agencies have also begun integrating climate change into aspects of development assistance and development finance. Applying five different criteria proposed by experts and practitioners, however, the results indicate that at least a portion of the Japanese FSF spend is not new and additional. A significant share of Japanese FSF reflects pre-existing pledges to development assistance initiatives to scale up climate change related finance such as those articulated in the Japan Cool Earth Partnership of 2008. Furthermore, Japan?s FSF cannot be seen as additional to its existing commitments to scale up development finance to 0.7 percent of its GNI.

FSF reporting follows Japan?s standard processes for reporting on conventional development assistance, whose transparency can be strengthened to meet new needs associated with FSF. There is room for improvement in terms of the transparency, accountability and credibility of Japanese FSF. Some of the identified issues may be attributable to the fact that Japanese FSF contains a large number of projects supported by a variety of channeling institutions. This has made it difficult for the government to present a clear overview of Japanese FSF.

The largest issue is that the information on FSF is disaggregated, although project-level information provided by the implementing agencies is detailed. Most of the climate finance projects could not be easily identified without extensive key word research on the websites of implementing agencies. This study identified about 250 likely FSF projects, amounting to USD 11.7 billion or nearly 90 percent of the amount committed by 29 February 2012. At the same time, about 500 FSF projects ? most of which are of relatively low monetary value ? could not be independently identified.

The Japanese government has already taken steps to strengthen the transparency of Japanese FSF, such as adding information about channeling institutions to the list of FSF projects included in its second submission to the UNFCCC. However, additional information would facilitate an informed discussion of the adequacy of FSF efforts. The following practices would further strengthen the transparency of Japanese climate finance reporting:

  • Provide a complete list of the projects that have been supported through the Japan FSF spend. Specify the climate finance projects that constitute aggregated numbers in the official documentation;

  • Include hyperlinks to the relevant webpages that describe the projects that have been supported through FSF in this proposed project list, as this would substantially enhance stakeholder access to information on the FSF contribution and understanding of its objectives;

  • Compile all information on its climate finance contributions in one easily accessible format, and support access to supporting information on the individual projects that constitute the FSF spend;

  • Explain the eligibility criteria for the ODA and OOF flows that have been counted towards the FSF contribution;

  • Work in cooperation with other contributor countries and multilateral institutions to strengthen and harmonize bilateral and multilateral reporting on climate finance.

Gaming, Entertainment, Hollywood and Celebrity News: Sydney casino, Spider-Man movie, movie ratings, The Wolverine, Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment, James Bond 007 in Skyfall, Highest paid actors includes "The Rock" and more... Australia's Lend Lease: development could host small-scale casino... A planned $6 billion development on Sydney Harbour does not have space for a large casino but could cater for smaller-scale VIP gaming, developer Lend Lease said on Monday, which would suit a proposal put forward by billionaire James Packer. Packer outlined a plan for an international hotel and casino at Barangaroo, on Sydney's waterfront, after his company Crown Ltd doubled its stake in its main rival, Echo Entertainment, which owns Sydney's sole casino. Crown wants to raise its stake in Echo to 25 percent from 10 percent, as part of its plans to lobby for a second Sydney casino licence to attract more Asian high-rollers. The developer of the site, Lend Lease, said on Monday it could focus more on plans for the hotel after announcing it has secured A$2 billion ($2.04 billion) funding for the first two commercial towers at its flagship project, including A$1 billion committed by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Lend Lease chief executive Steve McCann said the site did not have the capacity for a mass-market casino. "If there was going to be anything in the tower with any gaming capacity, it would be VIP-style gaming," he told analysts on a conference call. The New South Wales state government would need to approve any gaming licence, since Echo currently holds Sydney's exclusive casino licence until 2019. The state government previously welcomed Packer's proposal as a boost to tourism. Lend Lease has said it is in talks with a number of hotel groups for the site, including Crown. Shares in Crown gained 1.5 percent in morning trade and Lend Lease was up 0.3 percent, against a broader market down 0.8 percent. (Reuters) 'Amazing Spider-Man' Tops Box Office, Snares $140 Million Over Six Days... After a record-setting opening day, "The Amazing Spider-Man" remained strong through the weekend, helping the Sony/Columbia production earn $140 million in less than a week in theaters. Oliver Stone's "Savages" also opened with a decent $16 million in revenue, though music documentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me" struggled to find an audience and racked up just $7 million. Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" also continued to hit with its target demographic, hauling in $32 million and pushing its 10-day total to an enormous $120 million in domestic revenue. With a $230 million production budget and a very large built-in fan base, expectations were understandably high for "The Amazing Spider-Man." The Sony/Columbia reboot didn't take long to find its audience, racking up $35 million in revenue on Tuesday alone and putting up solid numbers throughout the rest of the week. "The Amazing Spider-Man" ended up with $65 million in weekend revenue, helping it to hit the lofty industry expectations. Globally, "The Amazing Spider-Man" also got off to a good start by bringing in more than $200 million in revenue outside of the U.S. After already eclipsing $340 million worldwide, "The Amazing Spider-Man" will easily cruise past $500 million in worldwide revenue in the coming weeks, though it's still unclear whether it will be able to challenge the franchise-best $890 million that "Spider-Man 3" brought in. Without any major new competition until "The Dark Knight Rises" opens in a couple weeks, "Spider-Man" should remain a box office stalwart and continue to put up some big overall numbers throughout the rest of the month. As mainstream action audiences came out in droves to see the new version of "Spider-Man," older audience members turned up for Oliver Stone's thriller "Savages." Backed by some decent critical reviews, "Savages" ended up with a decent $16 million in opening revenue - a strong total for a $45 million production. "Savages" also doesn't have to worry about too much new competition next weekend, opening the door for another decent revenue haul. While "Spider-Man" and "Savages" mainly hit with their target demographics, "Katy Perry: Part of Me" wasn't quite as fortunate. "Katy Perry" managed just $7.15 million over the weekend and $10.25 million in its first four days following its Thursday release. Though these are unimpressive numbers for a release of more than 2,700 total venues, "Katy Perry" also comes with a slender production budget of just $12 million. "Katy Perry" won't end up as one of the most lucrative music documentaries released in recent years, but it should end up as an overall success for distributor Paramount. Aiming at a much different demographic than "Katy Perry" this weekend was "Ted," which headed into its second weekend with plenty of buzz. After dominating the box office a week ago and posting $54 million, "Ted" dipped just 40% from its opening totals and finished the weekend with $32 million. Now with $120 million domestically in just 10 days in theaters, "Ted" is easily the top R-rated hit of the year and might even challenge $200 million in the U.S. if it can remain strong in the coming weekends. Also continuing to hit with its intended audience was Pixar/Disney's "Brave." "Brave" earned $20 million in its third weekend in theaters, pushing it to a very solid $174 million in its first 17 days. Foreign numbers have been slow so far for "Brave," though that should also change as it gets released in its biggest overseas markets in the coming weekends. The only real problem for "Brave" is the impending release of "Ice Age: Continental Drift," which opens this weekend with an enormous built-in family audience. Next weekend, the release schedule will slow down, as "Ice Age: Continental Drift" is the only new title slated to hit theaters in wide release. Though not as touted as some other animated franchises, "Ice Age" has been a great success for Fox, with enormous worldwide revenues despite production budgets roughly half the size of Pixar releases. The following weekend, Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" brings a similar amount of hype as "The Avengers" and is a lock to dominate the box office well into August. Early Studio Box Office Estimates for 7/6/12 - 7/8/12 (In Millions): 1. The Amazing Spider-Man (Sony/Columbia): $65 [$70] 2. Ted (Universal): $32.59 [$32] 3. Brave (Disney): $20.16 [$18] 4. Savages (Universal): $16.16 [$13.5] 5. Magic Mike (Warner Brothers): $15.61 [$21] 6. Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection (Lionsgate): $10.20 [$11.5] 7. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (Paramount/Dreamworks): $7.70 [$6.4] 8. Katy Perry: Part of Me (Paramount): $7.15 [$13] 9. Moonrise Kingdom (Focus): $4.64 [$2.6] 10. To Rome with Love (Sony Classics): $3.50 [N/A] Hugh Jackman Joined By Six Additions to Cast of The Wolverine... If director James Mangold's (3:10 to Yuma) The Wolverine hadn't been beset by weather, script and scheduling problems ? title star Hugh Jackman opted to star in the musical version of Les Miserables rather than wait for those issues to be sorted out ? the movie would currently be in post-production, with potentially enough edited footage to offer at least a teaser at this week's San Diego Comic-Con. As it is, Mangold is spending his time in the casting room, rather than the editing room, as he tries to put together a cast to support Jackman. In the last several days, six actors have joined the cast of The Wolverine, which takes Logan (Jackman) far away from his X-Men teammates and his wilderness retreat in Canada to Japan, where he must fight against the Silver Samurai and the deadly Hand ninjas at his command. Written by Chris McQuarrie (Valkyrie), with rewrites by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard), The Wolverine is based on the classic Marvel Comics limited series Wolverine by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, creator of Sin City and 300. The series stripped away Wolverine's superhero trappings and thrust him into a Japanese underworld brimming with feudal warriors and mystical ninjas. According to the list compiled by Empire from various sources, the cast will include: Hiroyuki Sanada (Speed Race) as Japanese crimelord Shingen Harada, leader of Clan Yashida; Tao Okamoto as Shingen's daughter and Wolverine's love interest, Mariko Yashida; Will Yun Lee (Total Recall remake) as Mariko's mutant half-brother, Kenuichio Harada, a.k.a. the Silver Samurai; Rila Fukushima as Yukio, an assassin who drugs Wolverine before his duel with Shingen; Hal Yamanouchi (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) as Yashida; and Brian Tee (Wedding Palace) as Noboru Mori, a corrupt minister of justice betrothed to Mariko. The Wolverine is set to begin shooting next month. It will primarily be filmed in Jackman's native Australia, but will also shoot on location in Japan. Next Showing:The Wolverine is slated to open July 26, 2013 (Reelz) Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson In Highest Paid Actors List... Dwayne ?The Rock? Johnson was listed at #4 on the Forbes annual list of the highest paid actors in the world over the past year. Johnson was reported as earning $36 million this past year, behind only Tom Cruise ($75 million), Leonardo DiCaprio ($37 million) and Adam Sandler ($37 million). Bwin.party warns over 'predictable' Euro 2012 results... Bwin.party digital entertainment, the world?s largest listed online gaming company, said a run of ?predictable? results in the Euro 2012 football championships marred an otherwise ?solid? second quarter performance. The football tournament, in which all of the favourites progressed to the later stages, is believed to have hit the betting industry hard this summer. Bwin said customer numbers and activity rose during the tournament but gross margins were ?lower than expected?. Despite this, the online gambling group said its casino and bingo products helped offset the weakness in sports betting and ?continued pressures? in poker. Bwin had been in negotiations with Shuffle Master (NasdaqGS: SHFL - news) to offload Ongame, its poker network, but talks were aborted at the end of last month after the two sides failed to reach agreement. In a pre-close trading update on Tuesday, bwin said several parties were interested in buying Ongame. The group claims it has reached a top three market position in Spain, where online gaming was recently opened up by authorities. Looking ahead, the company warned gaming taxes in Germany and an investment in social games games that are played through sites such as Facebook would impact its performance in the second half. (News Corp) Zynga is ?all in? to acquire Bwin.party-owned poker business Ongame: Report... Social gaming juggernaut Zynga is poised to take over online poker provider Ongame Network from its current owner, Internet gambling powerhouse Bwin.party. An exclusive report from eGaming Review (eGR) ? behind a paywall ? says Zynga is ?leading the race? to acquire Ongame, although there are four other unnamed bidders at the table (poker pun intended). Zynga has made a ?verbal offer?, according to eGR?s sources, and have reportedly visited Ongame?s Stockholm headquarters last Friday. Gambling table and slot machine maker Shuffle Master had already agreed and announced that it would be purchasing for up to $38.9 million in cash in February 2012, but it dropped those plans last week. Interestingly, Shuffle Master said it would pay out 10 million euros ($12.6 million) of that total purchase price within five years of the transaction closing, provided that real-money online poker would be legal in the United States within such period ? something that will happen eventually but is taking time. Not familiar with Ongame? Here?s what they do, according to their website: Ongame is the world?s leading B2B online poker provider, serving partnes including bwin, Betfair, Betsson and Unibet. Reaching over 20 million customers in more than 25 markets, with an international network licensed in Gibraltar, as well as regional networks in Italy and France. Ongame is the premier choice for sportsbook operators, providing a poker environment optimized for recreational players and a proven track record of increasing partner revenues. Ongame claims P5, the game engine powering its poker offering, is the ?most advanced poker engine ever designed?. The company is owned by Bwin.party as a result of an earlier merger, and has been dubbed by the latter as a ?surplus asset?. Zynga of course offers a wildly popular poker game called ? wait for it ? Zynga Poker, which can be played on Zynga.com, Facebook, iOS and Android devices. In fact, Zynga Poker was the company?s very first game. It certainly makes a lot of sense for them to buy Ongame Networks, even if it?s to keep it out of the hands of other players looking to move online with poker games as soon as it becomes legal in the US, and the company certainly has the cash on hand to make this kind of acquisition. 'Amazing Spider-Man' finishes weekend with $62M... LOS ANGELES (AP) "The Amazing Spider-Man" had a slightly slower start at the box office than initially estimated, taking in $62 million domestically over opening weekend. The final numbers Monday came in $3 million lower than the $65 million that distributor Sony had projected a day earlier, but it still was a healthy start for the new take on the Marvel Comics superhero. Since opening last Tuesday, "The Amazing Spider-Man" has taken in $137 million domestically. Its worldwide total is about $340 million since it began rolling out overseas the previous week. The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are: 1. Broker snap: Taxing times for bwin.party, says Peel Hunt... Peel Hunt has pared its target price for online gaming group bwin.party digital entertainment from 140p to 124p and maintained its ?hold? rating on the stock. ?The H1 pre-close held few surprises and no real catalyst to get the shares moving. At the current point the rating reflects concerns about Germany and a lack of visibility in many of the group?s markets,? said analyst Nick Batram. ?This is unlikely to change in the short term and further downgrades reflect the uncertain margin environment.? The broker says that the uncertain regulatory backdrop continues to hit the bottom line, with federal sports taxes in Germany set to reduce EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) by EUR5-10m. Peel Hunt has reduced its clean EBITDA forecast by EUR10m to EUR165m for the year ending December 2012. The 2013 EBITDA estimate has been cut from EUR196m to EUR175m. ?While regulation is the main factor, the business?s underlying performance is also a growing concern, particularly the rate at which poker is going backwards,? Batram said. Shares were down 3.25% at 104.3p by 10:56 on Tuesday. Roger Moore croons 007 birthday song... PARIS ? One-time 007 Roger Moore has teamed up with a former Bond Girl to record a song marking 50 years of the spy's on-screen adventures, a James Bond fan club said on Wednesday. The 84-year-old British actor took over Bond film duties from Sean Connery in 1973, making his debut in "Live and Let Die" before completing the sequence with "A View to a Kill" 12 years later. He teamed up with Irka Bochenko, his co-star in the 1979 film "Moonraker", for the anniversary duet titled "Happy Birthday Mr. Bond!", the spy's French fan club told AFP. Extracts will be posted online at www.jamesbond007.net ahead of the record's release in September. Hundreds of items -- from tuxedos to bikinis and vodka martinis -- went on show at London's Barbican Centre last week to mark 50 years since Bond made the jump from Ian Fleming's novels to the silver screen with the 1962 "Dr No". The next Bond movie, "Skyfall", directed by Sam Mendes with Daniel Craig as the glamorous spy, will hit world screens from October. Is a Virtual Phone System the Best Solution for Your Home Business?

If you are considering a home-based business, you have probably already put some thought into the communications solution you will use. While many people may choose to add a second landline or even use their existing landline and mobile phone, this makes it difficult to organize and handle calls. A virtual phone system is the perfect solution.

Cost Effective

The first reason why you should consider a virtual phone system as your communications solution of choice has to do with its cost effectiveness. Adding a second landline can be incredibly expensive, especially if jacks and splitters need to be installed. This is not true with a virtual system; multiple telephone numbers can be used with a single landline and the cost is much less than that associated with a standard landline. While an additional landline with unlimited long distance and basic features may cost as much as $80 a month, a virtual system may cost as little as $20 a month, depending on the type selected and the included features.

Packed with Features

Another great thing about a virtual phone system is that it comes fully loaded with all of the features that can help to make your business a success. The auto attendant feature automatically answers all of your calls and provides your callers with options about how they would like their calls handled. If they simply want information, you might choose to set up an information hotline so that you are not required to repeat the same thing to each caller. If they would like to speak with you directly, they can either ring through to you or be put through to your voicemail. Some systems even come with toll-free numbers and vanity numbers that will make your business more professional and memorable.

Better Customer Service

A virtual phone system has everything that is necessary for you to provide your customers with the best customer service experience possible. Thanks to the myriad of features that are available, you can ensure that each and every customer contact is a pleasant one. The auto attendant feature always greets each caller with courtesy and routes calls perfectly each and every time. Essentially, your clients and customers will have plenty of options available to them to ensure that they get a first-rate experience each time they call. With call forwarding, you can easily take your business number with you wherever you go.

Better Organization

The ability to track and log your calls and manage everything from a back-office web interface makes organizing your communications system a breeze. Never again will you have to be concerned with forgetting to call customers back or losing important documents in a traditional fax machine. When you travel, you can use call forwarding to ensure that all of your calls reach you. Finally, you can easily distinguish between your personal calls and your business calls thanks to the technology that the virtual phone system provides.

Running a home business can be a time consuming and expensive endeavor?especially in the beginning. By electing to use a virtual phone system, you can save time and money and provide your customers with the best service possible.

About Kevin John

When choosing your new iTeleCenter, you can choose from 1800 numbers or toll free numbers, or you can opt to pick a vanity number. Vanity numbers allow you to spell out a word such as 800-555-DIET, or maybe an easy-to-remember number sequence such as 888-555-1234.

richa_sharam: Auto body repair in Orange County | Mobile Audio ...

Possessing a car may be among the most expensive pleasures in a person?s existence. Between insurance payments, vehicle expenses, gasoline, oil changes as well as other maintenance costs the last thing you would like to do is delve into your pockets to cough up cash for dent repairs and damaged body parts.

Dents and other auto body damage is hard to prevent simply because there are plenty of situations that may cause them. Debris on the highway, children kicking around soccer balls, vehicle doors in parking lots or merely plain ol` Orange County weather can leave numerous dents of varied sizes which may possibly cause small aesthetic damages or can in fact damage the overall body structure of your vehicle.

Finding the right business for auto body repair in Orange County could be a challenging task because your number one concern is dependability. Even though there are an array of body shops to choose from some people have a preference for a shop that specializes in a particular problem instead of going to a full-service shop. This could be because a specialized shop will probably be quite well-informed about your one issue and generally are quite faster in repairs.?

If you are looking for dent repair in Orange County it is not the best idea to go to your car dealer;? not only are they costly but their region of concentration isn?t on a used automobiles including yours, it?s on brand new vehicles which generally have small producer defects. The very best place to begin are shops that? specialize in windshield fix, scratches and other types of body work, by doing this you know their primary concern is to bring the aesthetics of your vehicle to its fullest potential.

Some of you may be searching for bumper repair in Orange County. Be comforted by the proven fact that choosing a bumper repair shop is the wisest move to make since replacing your whole bumper may be far more expensive. Bumpers are produced to handle small collisions like shopping carts or running over the side walk; however, there are times when significant damage is performed from high impact collisions with other motor vehicles. Simply performing a do-it-yourself job like pouring resin over the crack along with a paint job will not suffice. Small to medium region repair technicians are a great choice because their concentration is around the specific areas on your car and they may fix them for a portion of the cost it could be to change the whole bumper. Using methods such as drilling, filling, priming, sanding, and lacquering will get your bumper appearing like new.

Once you?ve chosen your auto body repair shop there are ways to make sure it is the correct decision. Besides checking on-line for ratings and reputations, you need to look for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification from your specialists.? ASE specialists go through several testing procedures and also have two + years of automotive experience. In addition, do price evaluations between various licensed Orange County automotive shops. As long as you have a telephone and Connection to the internet you must be able to quickly contact shops in your area for offers.

Palm oil price decline dents Sime Darby profits

Sime Darby sounded a cautious note over palm oil prices after blaming the weak market for more than offsetting improved energy and industrial results to foster drop in profits.

The Malaysian-based group, the world's largest oil palm plantation group, with operations in sectors from healthcare to property too, said that its profits from the vegetable oil tumbled 28% to 671.9m ringgit in the July-to-September quarter.

The decline reflected a drop in volumes of palm oil sold, and a weakening to 2,707 ringgit a tonne in the price achieved, down 8.1% year on year.

And Sime Darby chief executive Mohd Bakke Salleh said that the group was "cautious on the outlook for the rest of the financial year", to June 2013, citing weakness in the world economy and "volatility in commodity prices".

Kuala Lumpur palm oil prices slumped by more than one-third from a high of 3,628 ringgit a tonne in April to a three-year low of 2,220 ringgit a tonne earlier this month.

'Conservative assumptions'

Mr Bakke said that Sime Darby was expecting earnings of 3.2bn ringgit in the year to June 2013, lower than many analysts have forecast, a target based on a "prudent" view of key performance indicators given commodity price volatility and a weak global economy.

"Our profit guidance was derived from conservative assumptions on the crude palm oil price to be realised," he said.

However, Sime Darby said that the longer-term prospects for the plantations division remained "resilient", thanks to the prospect of "robust long-term demand, coupled with the group's focus on higher productivity, managing costs and increasing market share for edible oils".

Many palm oil companies have forecast some revival in prices of the vegetable oil, as Malaysian and Indonesian production passes its peak, and with values at a historically large discount to rival soyoil, with which it is interchangeable for many uses.

Production result

Sime Darby said that it overall palm fruit production rose by 5.6%, with a 20% rise in output at its Indonesian plantations offsetting a decline of 1.6% at its bigger Malaysian operations.

However, the impact on palm oil output was eroded in part by a reduction in extraction rates from the fresh palm fruit bunches.

Group earnings for the quarter dipped 7.8% to 990.3m ringgit, on revenues up 6.9% at 11.8bn ringgit.

Sime Darby shares closed down 0.3% at 9.50 ringgit in Kuala Lumpur.

Samsung's report on Chinese suppliers makes for grim reading, especially between the lines

Samsung's audit of its Chinese suppliers makes for grim reading, especially between the lines

On the face of it, Samsung's latest report on working conditions at the factories of its Chinese suppliers follows just the kind of careful, lawyer-scrutinized language we'd expect from a big multinational. It repeats the manufacturer's earlier insistence that no children have been employed, while at the same time admitting that there have been "several instances of inadequate practices at the facilities" concerning workers being made to do too much overtime, not being given proper contracts, and being fined if they turn up late or are absent -- issues which had already been revealed at one supplier, and which Samsung promises to fix by the end of 2014.

Burrow further into the document, however, and Samsung's list of promised "corrective actions" implies that its internal investigation has uncovered evidence of other serious problems. These include "physical and verbal abuse," sexual harassment, a lack of first-aid equipment and inadequate safety training. Some information is also conspicuous by its absence -- at least in the short report linked below -- including clarity on how widespread any of these failings were among the 109 companies (and 65,000 employees) that have now been audited. Did they crop up at just a handful of factories, or were they endemic across China? We have no idea, but given how much data Samsung has now dutifully amassed, it surely does. We've asked the company for more detail and will update if we hear back.

Cancer patient gets wish, Giants play like champs

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) ? A week off, some rest and a poignant plea from a 15-year-old cancer patient got the New York Giants back on track.

Now the rest of the NFL has something to worry about. The Giants are playing like world champions again.

A refreshed Eli Manning came back from the bye week and threw three touchdown passes as the Giants embarrassed Aaron Rodgers and the streaking Green Bay Packers 38-10 on Sunday night.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak and gave the Giants (7-4) a two-game lead in the NFC East with five games left in the regular season. The dominating performance also ended a five-game winning streak for the Packers (7-4), who fell a game behind Chicago in the NFC North.

"We just had to go out there with a lot of confidence and play like we are capable," Giants center David Baas said. "I felt we did that. We showed everybody. People that counted us out, they better wake up."

No one was more pleased with the Giants than Adam Merchant. The 15-year-old fan from Barre, Vt., attended Friday's practice and Sunday's game, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Merchant spoke to the team after practice and seemed to remind them what it's all about.

"I told them to go out and play like world champs," he said, sitting at a locker next to defensive captain Justin Tuck.

When asked why he gave the message, he shot back:

"Because we really needed to go out and play like world champs."

Against the Packers, the Giants did.

Manning, who had not thrown a touchdown in three games, had scoring strikes of 16 yards to rookie Rueben Randle, 9 yards to Victor Cruz and 13 to Hakeem Nicks. The last one gave him 200 for his career, breaking the team record held by Phil Simms.

"The thing I'm most proud of tonight is the way we played and getting a win," said Manning, who was 16 of 30 for 249 yards. "This was a big game, we needed to come out and play well and get a win. We finally got back to playing offense, defense, special teams, all of us playing at a high level, playing as a team, and hopefully we can build off of this momentum."

Everybody seemed to contribute. Ahmad Bradshaw ran 13 yards for a touchdown and went 59-yards with a screen pass to set up Andre Brown's 2-yard TD run on the opening drive.

The defense sacked Rodgers five times and set up 10 points with Corey Webster's pick leading to Lawrence Tynes' field goal and Osi Umenyiora's strip-sack and Jason Pierre-Paul's 10-yard return setting up Bradshaw's TD run that gave New York a 31-10 lead.

The 31 points were the most scored by the Giants in a half this season, and it pretty much decided the game.

The only negative was Brown broke his left leg in the second half and his season looks done.

The Packers were done before that, at as far as this game.

"I think this is a game that makes everybody look inside and find out what you're about," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I haven't felt like this since the first game I coached as a Green Bay Packers head coach. Beaten very thoroughly tonight. It doesn't taste good. It doesn't feel good."

Rodgers got Green Bay off to a great start, connecting with Jordy Nelson on a 61-yard scoring pass on its first series. There was little else to celebrate in a game where he finished 14 of 25 for 219 yards, an interception and a lost fumble.

"You win five in a row and everyone is happy, but like I said last year during the run, there are things that go under the radar that need to be handled," Rodgers said "Sometimes it takes a loss. ... We need to remember this feeling and not have this kind of embarrassment happen again.

The Packers were missing such key starters as linebacker Clay Matthews, defensive back Charles Woodson and receiver Greg Jennings, and it showed as they were manhandled by the Giants for the second straight time. New York beat them 37-20 in the NFC semifinal, a game some Packers said they lost more than the Giants won.

This one, there was no doubt who was the better team.

"We went out there and proved it," Merchant said.

Manning was impressed with the way Merchant handled himself, saying players felt it was special that the youngster had one wish and chose to spend time with the Giants.

"He had the opportunity to come out and talk to the team, so Coach Coughlin does a great job and all the players do a great job of making him feel welcome and fired up," Manning said. "It can be kind of nerve-racking to come talk to your favorite team and have a little pep talk, but he did a great job and he said to go show everybody you're the world champions and why you're the world champions and play that way. I think it got everybody fired up and obviously we came out and played the way that we know we can."

The Giants never trailed after Manning's touchdown pass to Randle, the first of his career. Webster's interception set up Tynes' field goal for a 17-7 lead and Cruz capped a 61-yard drive early in the second quarter to push the lead to 24-7.

A short field goal by Mason Crosby got Green Bay within two touchdowns, but Umenyiora's forced fumble set up Bradshaw's TD run and the game was over by halftime.

NOTES: The Giants lost safety Kenny Phillips with a knee injury in the third quarter. He was making his first appearance since Week 4. ... Giants right tackle David Diehl sustained a stinger in the first half. ... Green Bay lost safety M.D. Jennings (rib), DE C.J. Wilson (knee), and RB Johnny White (concussion). ... Giants tight end Martellus Bennett caught a fan who leaned too far over the lower railing trying to grab a glove Bennett was giving a child after the game. The fan was arrested.

Cutler returns with roar for Bears

QB throws touchdown pass two weeks after suffering concussion against Texans

Jay Cutler shares a laugh with Matt Spaeth as they wait for a touchdown replay call.

updated 6:53 p.m. ET Nov. 25, 2012

CHICAGO - The Chicago Bears got Jay Cutler back from a concussion, only to lose three more stars to injuries.

Start with Devin Hester. Add Matt Forte and Charles Tillman to the list, and just for good measure, throw in two starting guards.

Consider this a painful win.

Cutler threw for 188 yards and a touchdown after missing a game, and the Bears broke it open early in a 28-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The injuries, however, tempered some of the good feelings.

Tied with Green Bay for the NFC North lead and just a game ahead of Minnesota (6-5) coming in, the Bears (8-3) grabbed a 25-3 halftime lead thanks to Cutler's pinpoint passing. The defense held Adrian Peterson in check early on, although he finished with 108 yards rushing.

Chicago also came away with three more takeaways to increase its total from a league-leading 30 entering the game to 33.

The rather easy win came after back-to-back losses to Houston and San Francisco, but it also came with a heavy price.

The Bears lost Hester, a receiver and record-setting return specialist, early to a concussion. And that was just the start.

Forte, their top running back, hobbled to the tunnel midway through the third quarter with an ankle injury. Coach Lovie Smith said Tillman, their star cornerback, also hurt his ankle.

Besides those three, the Bears lost both guards in the third quarter to knee sprains, with Lance Louis and Chris Spencer going down. Louis' injury on a blindside hit by Jared Allen as Antoine Winfield returned an interception forced Chicago to go with Gabe Carimi, who lost the right tackle job to Jonathan Scott.

Spencer, meanwhile, was in the lineup after Chilo Rachal left the team.

If the Bears are going to develop any continuity on the line, well, don't expect it anytime soon.

"I don't think it's possible now," Cutler said. "With all the moving parts we have and Lance going down, you're not going to have that. We're going to have to roll with the guys we have and see what we have, lean on our defense as we have before, run the ball well. Be efficient through the air. See how far we go."

As for Cutler, he looked sharp after missing Monday's blowout loss at San Francisco.

Back after being knocked out of the Texans game on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Tim Dobbins, he got off to a scorching start and completed 23 of 31 passes with an interception to go with his TD.

"I felt good," Cutler said. "It was a matter of going through the motions, talking to the doctors. I had a good week of practice, a shorter week with the Monday game and Thanksgiving."

Brandon Marshall caught 12 passes for 92 yards and became the first Bears receiver since Marty Booker in 2002 to go over 1,000 yards. He now has 1,017 yards this season, his sixth straight with 1,000 or more.

"In the third quarter, I leaned over to Jay and said, `That catch puts me at 1,000 yards for six seasons in a row.' And he looked at me and said, `You're disgusting,"' Marshall, the Bears' big offseason acquisition, said, laughing.

He added he knew he was closing in because followers on Twitter had mentioned it.

On defense, Henry Melton set the tone by sacking Christian Ponder on the first play from scrimmage. Nick Roach set up the first touchdown by knocking the ball out of Peterson's hands. Chris Conte set another TD with a 35-yard interception return, and Julius Peppers blocked a field goal.

The league's leading rusher, Peterson tied Robert Smith's club record with a 100-yard performance for the fifth straight game even though he managed just 25 in the first half. He also lost two fumbles and had to catch a cab to the stadium and arrived about 90 minutes before kickoff.

Ponder wasn't much help, going 22 of 43 with 159 yards and a touchdown along with an interception. His favorite target, Percy Harvin, sat out his second straight game with a sprained left ankle, and the Vikings lost for the third time in four games.

"We knew what we were getting into," Peterson said. "They wanted to make a statement. I thought it was more so what we did, giving the ball away, not making routine plays. Can't wait to see them again."

He won't have to wait long, with the Bears visiting Minnesota on Dec. 9.

Cutler completed 15 of 17 passes for 117 yards in the first half, and the Bears jumped out a big lead after a shaky start on offense.

Forte fumbled on Chicago's first play from scrimmage, leading to a 40-yard field goal by Blair Walsh - all the scoring the Vikings did in the half.

The Bears broke it open late in the second half.

Bush scored from the 1 and holder Adam Podlesh ran in for a 2-point conversion that made it 18-3.

Ponder got picked off by Conte and he returned it 35 yards to the Minnesota 13. That led to a scoring strike from Cutler to a lunging Matt Spaeth on the next play.

NOTES: Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he and Peterson were going to have a talk about punctuality after Sunday's delayed arrival. "There is something that Adrian and I need to talk about regarding getting to the stadium," he said. ... Allen thought his hit on Louis after Winfield's interception was a clean one. "I turned around, he was running to make a tackle and I threw myself into him to make a block. My condolences to him and his family. I never, ever, try and intentionally hurt anybody."

Superstorm Sandy racks up $32 billion in NY damages

Between the state of New York and New York City, hurricane Sandy has cost about $32 billion in losses. State and local governments already facing financial strain will turn to the federal government for aid.

Sandy ran up a $32 billion bill on New York, and the state and New York City are making big requests for disaster aid from the federal government.

Top political leaders in New York put their heads together Monday on big requests for federal disaster aid as Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that Superstorm Sandy ran up a bill of $32 billion in the state and the nation's largest city.

The cost is for repairs and restoration and does not include an additional accounting of over $9 billion to head off damage in the next disastrous storm, including steps to protect the power grid and cellphone network.

"It's common sense; it's intelligent," Cuomo said. "Why don't you spend some money now to save money in the future? And that's what prevention and mitigation is."

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg had announced earlier in the day that Sandy caused $19 billion in losses in New York City ? part of the $32 billion estimate Cuomo used.

New York taxpayers, Cuomo said, can't foot the bill.

"It would incapacitate the state. ... Tax increases are always a last, last, last resort."

Cuomo met with New York's congressional delegation to discuss the new figures and present "less than a wish list." The delegation, Cuomo and Bloomberg will now draw up a request for federal disaster aid.

States typically get 75 percent reimbursement for the cost of governments to restore mass transit and other services after a disaster.

The most basic recovery costs for roads, water systems, schools, parks, individual assistance and more total $15 billion in New York City; $7 billion for state agencies; $6.6 billion in Nassau County and $1.7 billion in Suffolk County, both on suburban Long Island; and $527 million in Westchester County and $143 million in Rockland County, both north of New York City, according to a state document used in the private briefing of the delegation and obtained by The Associated Press.

Hard times were already facing the state and city governments that were staring at deficits of more than $1 billion before Sandy hit in late October. State tax receipts have also missed projections, showing a continued slow recovery from a recession that could hit taxpayers in the governments' budgets this spring. And there's the looming fiscal cliff, the combination of expiring federal tax cuts and major spending cuts that could rattle the economy.

Interview with Elaine Shannon ? Owner of Alamo Websites ...

Interview with ElaineTell us a little bit about yourself and your entrepreneurial journey.

I grew up wanting to be an artist from the time I was in preschool. Around 8th grade I began to realize I was never going to make a living selling my paintings, and around the same time the internet was really starting to take off. I talked my parents into letting me set up my own website, taught myself how to code, and realized I could combine my love of design with this new medium and have a profitable career I would actually enjoy.

I studied commercial graphics in college and set out to join the corporate world, never dreaming I would want to start my own business. But I was never quite satisfied in my jobs because I never felt like I got to contribute enough of myself.

When my husband first suggested I start a business, I shrugged off the idea, thinking it would be too hard. Then my son came along, and I began to wonder what it might be like to work from home so that I could spend more time with him.

I started Alamo Websites in my spare time, and as business grew, I was working 5 days a week at my regular job, 1 day a week teaching, and the last day of the week (plus any evenings when I didn?t crash before 10 PM) getting my two businesses off the ground. Working that hard pushed me past my limits, but it also gave me the motivation I needed to make sure the businesses succeeded so I would never have to work that hard again.

What did you do before launching your own business??

I was a graphic designer for about 5 years before I started Alamo Websites. I did everything from designing postcards to running printing presses to heading up online marketing campaigns, and what seemed like an odd mix of jobs ended up preparing me better than I could ever have intentionally prepared to open Unbeatable Banners.

How did you fund your businesses??

Blood, sweat, and tears. One of the greatest things about creating an online business is that if you can code things yourself, you barely have any expenses. I am blessed to have an extremely talented husband who was able to code what I couldn?t, and equally blessed to have a mentor and friends who helped me spread the word and get both businesses off the ground.

How many hours do you work a week and how much is spent is your home office?

I have 3 days a week to myself, so I use nearly all of that time (18 hours) for work. It?s tricky balancing client work, updating my own sites, and marketing, so I usually spend another 4 hours evenings or weekends squeezing in what I couldn?t quite finish during the week. I do almost all of my work from my cozy home office because I stay a lot more focused there. I always wish I had more time to devote to my businesses, but I really enjoy spending 2 days a week just with my son and having weekends to relax again.

How would you rate your success?

I?m big on setting goals, and in short-term goals I have been very successful. I have happy web design clients, satisfied banner customers, and income to show for all my hard work. Now I?m focusing my efforts toward the longer-term goal of growing both businesses so that I can continue to work from home and spend more time with my family. My farthest-reaching goal is to innovate and grow to the point where I can create jobs for others who want to work from home. Both companies are designed in a way that would let employees work from anywhere.

What has been your biggest business struggle as an entrepreneur?

Finding the best way to get the word out and bring in customers. The web used to be an ?if you build it, they will come? marketplace, but there is so much competition these days that you have to find the right marketing mix.

What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?

1. Find something that you are truly passionate about before you start a business. Everything will come a lot easier to you, since you?ll already be familiar with your target market and what they are looking for.

2. Seek out mentors and learn from others. There?s no need to reinvent the wheel, and connections can help you grow your business in ways you never even imagined. Read up on good books like Mom, Inc., participate in forums, and reach out to your heroes. If you genuinely connect with someone who has been successful in your field, more often than not they will be willing to help you in some way.

3. Don?t expect anything to happen overnight. Sometimes your business will grow by leaps and bounds; at other times you will feel like you?ve been working for nothing because you haven?t seen the results yet. That?s why doing something you truly enjoy and having mentors around is so important ? you?re more likely to see it through and reap the rewards you have been working toward.?

How do you manage all of your personal and business activities?

I find balance by scheduling business activities, family activities, and free time. I break down big goals into 1- or 2-hour chunks so I?m always making progress toward several goals, and I only schedule about 75% of my weekdays so if I need to take a break and walk through the park, take a nap, or just watch a TV show that doesn?t air on Nick Jr., I?m not falling behind.

I keep a big planner and mark down all the things I do each day, like getting groceries and cleaning, in addition to the tasks I planned. This lets me look back on a week and feel like I accomplished so much more ? and it helps me see patterns where I am not using my time wisely, so I can make better plans for the future.

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in Chinese plant

Jiangsu, China & Coventry, UK: Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Automobile Company Ltd, the British and Chinese carmakers, today formally laid the foundation stone for their new manufacturing facility in the People's Republic of China.

The two companies recently received formal approval from the Chinese Government for their joint venture and now have a licence to manufacture Jaguar Land Rover vehicles and new models for a partnership brand in China.

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery will now accelerate plans to build a joint venture manufacturing plant in Changshu, near Shanghai, as part of a 10.9bn RMB investment that will also include a new research and development centre and engine production facility. The project includes the creation of a new partnership brand to assemble models tailored specifically for the Chinese market, including the marketing and distribution.

The benefits of the joint venture to China include investment, job creation, advanced technology and low carbon solutions. The joint venture will blend together the heritage and experience of luxury premium vehicle manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover with the intricate knowledge and understanding of Chinese customers evident at Chery.

The JV underlines a firm commitment from both companies to the world's largest car market for the long term future.

In a joint statement, at today's press conference in Jiangsu, Dr. Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, and Mr Yin Tongyao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chery Automobile Company Ltd, said: "We are delighted to have reached this milestone, achieved thanks to the understanding and foresight of the Chinese authorities and we want to thank them for recognising the potential of our joint venture in the fast-growing Chinese market.

"Together, we will now begin working in close collaboration on our partnership plans to harness the capabilities of our respective companies, to produce relevant, advanced models for Chinese consumers."

The name of the new joint venture company was also confirmed today by Dr. Ralf Speth and Mr Yin Tongyao. The equal partnership will be called - Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.

In addition to established vehicles, the partnership will also produce models for a domestic brand tailored specifically to local customer demand. Both companies are committed to investing heavily into product innovation and advanced technologies using a new Research and Development Centre, more details of which will be released at a later date.

The two companies plan to complete the Changshu facility in Jiangsu province during 2014. Construction of a new engine plant for production of fuel efficient engines is also part of the JV partnership agreement.

The confidence of Chery's partnership with Jaguar Land Rover follows rapid expansion of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands in China, where sales rose 80 per cent in the first 10 months to October 2012. In the 2011 calendar year, Jaguar Land Rover saw sales increase more than 60 per cent, driven mainly by the Jaguar XJ and XF models, and strong demand for the fuel-efficient Range Rover Evoque.

Chery, the largest Chinese car exporter and one of the country's most productive automotive manufacturers, has 15 years' experience in the automobile industry.

The partnership with Jaguar Land Rover signals the start of international expansion and strategic development for Chery Automobile.

Atlanta (AP) ? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says black women are 40 percent more likely to die of breast?cancer than white women are.

Breast?cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among American women, but the CDC?s Ileana Arias says black women have ?unacceptably high? death rates. She says they have the ?highest death rates from breast?cancer among all racial and ethnic groups.?

Arias says many lives could be saved each year with proper screening and treatment, stressing the importance of educating black women to coverage provided by the new health care law, including mammograms without co-pays in many health plans.
